This Philippine species was described in 2013 along with N.abalata. Not much is known about the altitudinal distribution of this species, but the holotype was collected at 670 meters, making it a lowlander. The species grows as a terrestrial, likely in ultramafic areas. N. abgracilis is a member of the informal "N. micramphora group". The species is listed as critically endangered.
